I am appealing to the kindness and generosity of fellow Kai-Viti’s living away from home to make a small donation to this worthy charity project. This is your opportunity to put smiles back on peoples faces back in the islands with medically acquired illnesses or injuries who are struggling to survive in an inadequate and poorly funded health system.
There are extreme shortages of wheelchairs, commodes, walking frames, crutches and other mobility aids. We just cannot send enough. All equipment we send are completely absorbed into the system as soon as they arrive in Fiji. The diabetes pandemic has not helped either and creating an even greater demand for wheelchairs and other mobility aids, especially by amputees.
Other donations of 200 plus high quality height/posture adjustable hospital beds and impermeable mattresses to Tamavua, Levuka, Colonial War Memorial, St Giles, Tavua, Sigatoka and Wainibokasi Hospitals has helped modernise and vastly improve patient comfort and services.
Up till now the VASA Charity has been extremely lucky to have our containers sponsored by service organisations, business houses and generous individuals. However, there are too many other competing charities and unfortunately for us fund raisers, times are tough hence this appeal to Kai-Vitis living abroad.
My commitment to persons with disabilities is that I too am a motor accident victim working from a wheelchair since 1989, a result of a motor vehicle accident. Nevertheless, I continue to remain focussed on my principal, advocating persons with disabilities here in South Australia
I would like to see many more KV names added to our extremely meagre contributions list on this PowerPoint presentation.
Thanking you all in anticipation
